Day 12

Ahhhhhhh I was so tired from the party last night I just passed out! And then over slept and had to run to class! After I got here I remembered that I never did my blog post!!! Bad Becca...

Yesterday was full of stuff! I had two classes in the morning, then walked the city a bit, went home and got hmwk done, then got ready for a little part at the house! We made pizza in the pizza oven that Frank, my host dad, made himself, and cake for my birthday! Haha another celebration! The pizza was sooooooooooo good and the cake was out of this world! Of course I expected nothing less when I was making it and about ten coups of sugar and three things of heavy cream went into it... I guess I'm going to the gym today ;)

I'll post again later tonight!

Ps give this post a little break, it's from my phone!

Day 10

Sooooo yesterday was my birthday, it was great, although having my 21st away from home definitely brought in some homesickness. I didn't get to talk to those who I normally would, and it was a bit hard. But my host family was great, and woke me up to waving danish and american flags while singing happy birthday! I then went down stairs to a decorated table, presents at my seat, and fresh baked bread from the bakery. (yummmm)

I went on to two great classes, and then met up with some new friends to have lunch in the park! Mother Nature obviously knew it was my birthday because the sun came out in full force with only the occasional passing cloud. ( that doesn't happen all that much here in denmark ;)) After eating our bag lunches Lisa and Maria, two friends living with host families near me, took out a big thick piece of Recies bar that they had made the night before for me! Again Yumm!

I stayed in the central city for a Cafe night with my Danish Language and Culture class which ended up being really fun. My teacher is endlessly energetic and she gave us essentially a walking tour of a neighborhood that we hadn't seen before! We then stopped at a nice little cafe and the school payed for our dinner and a drink! (so technically my school bought me my first US legal drink ;)) I sat, ate, and had a beer with my class mates and more importantly my teacher, which is common over here... weird right? But it was very fun and I was able to get to know several of my classmates, as well as attempt to order my øl (beer) in danish! That didn't go so well...

(Picture of eating with my class)

After dinner I met up with Lisa Ritter (girl from my high school) and we sat and drank a nice tall øl. It was nice to catch up with her and see someone from home. On thursday we will be holding a birthday dinner here at the house! which will be very fun and I will be helping make the birthday cake tomorrow!

No more time for homesickness, Love you all but I will continue my adventure now ;)

Day 9

Got home so late last night I just passed out! Here is a picture for now! I'll tell about my birthday after my classes!

Day 8

Had a nice lazy Sunday, well not really lazy, I read about 100 pages from various text books, and finished my sweater! I was on the other hand finally about to spend some relaxed time in the house with my great host family!

Like it?

The Lovely Books that I spent my day with!

And of course I had to paint my nails with the new and fancy nail polish that my a lovely friend got for me!

And is it my imagination or is it my 21st birthday tomorrow??? My goodness that came up fast! My host family informed me that when there is a birthday in their house the birthday person is not allowed to get up and out of bed until someone comes to get them from their room! So I wonder what is going to be waiting for me in the morning! Maybe a big breakfast? Whatever it is I am excited!

I am ging with my class to a cafe night tomorrow evening, so we are planning a birthday dinner on thursday, where we will make pizzas in their outdoor pizza oven and eat Danish Birthday Cake! (I will get back to you on the actual name of the cake...) But we will have friends from my classes over and some of their family to celebrate. It wont be the average American 21st birthday, but it will be one that I remember <3

Day 7

Day seven! An entire week here in Denmark <3 I went to an exercise class today with my host parents, and I have to admit, I can barely move. I think they are going to whip my butt into shape while I am here ;)

I'm not going to lie I was so tired from the workout that I forgot to take a picture! But here is another picture from yesterday! It is of one of the lions guarding the gate outside of Rosenborg castle. As well as some flowers, and me in a picture to show that I was actually there! ;)

Hope all is well back in the states!

Day 6

Day Six, what can I say about today?

Today was beautiful! I was finally able to catch up on sleep, which was wonderful, and then on top of that I had no classes so I went in search of the royal Botanical Gardens, and Rosenburg Castle. I went by myself because everyone else had class :( but it was still really fun, and pretty! here are my favorite pictures from the day!

It was a nice relaxing day, and those two locations are just a 15 minute walk from my classes!

Its going to be an interesting semester ;)

Day 5

Had a great day with my first classes complete! My first Danish hmwk was pretty difficult, but with the help of my host mom and sister I got through it!

Time for bed, with a sunset over the house next door to end a great day

Day 4

Last day before classes start!
More of the same orientation stuff! But Visited the Trinitais Church Built by King Christian the IV, and a lovely park with friends!

Had one moment of "Oh my goodness I actually Get to study here???" while walking down cute European Streets <3

Ended the day with a beautiful rainbow at Ballerup Train Station!

Time for bed! These posts will become more interesting once I am not walking in the city for 12 hours a day and I finally catch up on sleep ;)

Day 3

Exhausted from jet lag, I haven't been able to sleep! So this will be short!

I went on a scavenger hunt around Copenhagen today for various important sites to know as a part of my orientation. I already feel more comfortable getting to and around downtown Copenhagen than I do  with Boston!

Crazy Right? I cant believe its only been two days of wandering the city trying to figure out witch street is witch and how the hell you are supposed to pronounce them.

So anyway, the castle where the Royal family resides (below)

A beautiful garden and park around the Parliament Buildings

And did  mention my host family lets their 4 rabbits just hang out in their enclosed backyard during the day? Adorably Fluffy Big Rabbits that bound about their yard <3

Loving it <3
Night!

Day 2

Today was crazy!

On my second day here in Copenhagen we had the opening ceremony and then orientation classes in the heart of Copenhagen!

So I woke up around 6:30 to shower and take the train into the city central, luckily my host mother lead the way for my first day! I took a bus from a stop a minutes walk from my house, then after a 5 minute bus ride we got on the C train for a twenty minute ride, and after another 8 minute walk we were there!
The day past fast and so many things happened that I don't even know what to really say about it, but I managed to find my way around Copenhagen for my different classes, and made it home with a friend in one piece!
I will get to navigate the transportation system without my host mother for guidance tomorrow morning, Yikes!

I will let you know how it goes ;)

But as promised, here are some pictures of the backyard that my room looks out onto!

A nice outdoor Pizza oven that I am assured I will get to see in action soon!

A patio outdoor eating area <3

A fire pit!

And of course an in ground tramp and a miniature carousel that used to actually spin!

Cant forget the apple tree that is dropping about 50 apples a day!

And a Quick Picture of a downtown Copenhagen street that my school has buildings on!

Over all a nice day and at the end my host mom took me grocery shopping to get the food that I wanted in the house, and notebooks for classes!

Dont worry we ended up with about 4 different things from the grocery store that are danish and I have never tried before!

Curried Herring anyone???

Day One

The Adventure Begins!

I am finally on my way to Denmark after waiting forever!

My family and I after a Birthday meal the night before my trip!

Me at the airport before going through security!

The flight wasn't too bad, I was able to watch The Hunger Games for the first time!!! It went by fast, and then I landed in Iceland where I had an 8 hour layover! Thankfully I was able to find food, but not before I found this delicacy of pickled Herring over boiled eggs... I thought dad would appreciate that!

Met a girl from DIS named Martha who was very nice, and we stuck together through the rest of the trip making sure we both made it in one piece.

And even walked outside when I was time to get on the plane ;)

The rest of my day went well. I managed to make it to Copenhagenn and meet my host family! They are super nice and drove me to thier house then gave me a tour and we ate lunch and cake that Janne had made for my arrival. My room is beautiful and I loooove their backyard! (pictures to come later)

We ended the day by taking a walk around the neighborhood, a drive to a nearby lake to see a bit more of Ballerup and the surrounding area, and then dinner and a glass of red wine while trying to figure out my schedual and intended train rout of the next day!
